The Shoe Event Horizon is an economic theory that draws a correlation between the level of economic (and emotional) depression of a society and the number of shoe shops the society has.

The theory is summarized as such: as a society sinks into depression, the people of the society need to cheer themselves up by buying themselves gifts. This is usually done through the purchase of shoes. As more money is spent on shoes, more shoe shops are built, and the quality of the shoes begins to diminish. This makes people buy more shoes.

The above turns into a vicious cycle, the end result being that other industries begin to falter.

Eventually the titular Shoe Event Horizon is reached, where the only type of store economically viable to build is a shoe shop. At this point, society ceases to function, and the economy collapses, sending a world into ruin.
The population of the planet Brontitall was forced to evolve into bird-like creatures in order to survive the result of the shoe event horizon.

Sorry, it took so long to get back to you. It was kind of a crazy week and once your email slipped below the event horizon I completely spaced.

The Memory Event Horizon is the point where the last person with direct experience of a historical event dies, leaving only second-hand knowledge of the event. Usually applied to wars as the veterans of each war pass away, but can be applied to any significant event that leaves a lasting imprint on a society. Once an event has passed its Memory Event Horizon it will forevermore only exist in history books and documentaries.
When the last U.S. veteran of World War I, Frank Buckles, passed away in 2011 the First World war passed the Memory Event Horizon into history.

Used in Role-playing videogames to reference the point at which the game becomes easy to play based on the character's experience and strength.

In such games, one gains gold by fighting monsters, performing tasks, and occasionally by randomly foraging in the world. The gold is then used to purchase armor, weaponry and training, making it easier to fight larger monsters, who hold more gold, and so on.

Every game has a point where one has gained so much gold from one's adventures that one can afford any item in the game, making the character exceedingly strong, and rendering all opponents ineffectual. This point is the cash Event Horizon. Usually, the later in the game this point appears, the more challenging the game is.
The Cash Event Horizon of "Beet Farming Tycoon" is real low - after five hours of play you've got so much money you don't know what to do with it.

i.e. all shirts & skivvies are past the 3-day inside-out rule; and all your pants & socks are funk-starched to the point of standing on their own. You are past the laundry event horizon.
