A really really poor city where one in four people are drug addicts. Binghamton has to main ghettos, The west side by the high school and The outskirts of Downtown go in these two neighborhoods and you are likely to get robbed.
I went to a B mets game last night in downtown Binghamton and after I got through the group of hookers i got robbed at gunpoint.

I hate this place. I go to SUNY binghamton, and lemme tell you, dont!
I am a senior, and I think on average, there are 2-3 sunny days per semester. And it alternates everyday from rain to snow, so that there is always ice and mud everywhere. Even in the summer, when its in the 90s, i still see damn mud puddles everywhere! Every frickin kid here has a chip on their shoulder that they arent in Cornell, and they wear cornell and ithaca shirts, and go there all the time, like they are trying to delude themselves. Everyone at this school is either a spoiled ass from Long Island, a designer clothes whore asian from queens, a self-seggregating Jew or Christian, or a FOBby Indian engineering major. Oh, and i think there are five or six black people too. Once you leave campus you realize that you are in the most boring place you will ever be, surrounded by rednecks who wear camo all the time, weigh 300 pounds, and look seriously inbred. Looking into their eyes you will see no spark of intellect, and if you notice their mouths, dont expect to find a full set of teeth.
If you need an example, go to walmart and check out the montage on Jappy long islanders interacting with confederate hicks.

Binghamton isn't a bad place like all the fucktards from Long Island think it is. I grew up there and think it is a wonderful city in a beautiful valley. It has many art galleries, parks, a museum, and the largest public observatory in the northeast US. The spoiled brats from long island don't like it because its not close enough to drive into Manhattan, and obviously NYC has much more to do than Binghamton, but Manhattan has more to do than pretty much anywhere. So don't bash Binghamton because it has cold winters and you actually have to find something to do instead of having fun force fed to you. If you look in the right place Binghamton can be a fun and enjoyable place to live. So stop complaining and make the most of our cold winters (ie. several ski resorts and a lot of hills for sledding) and keep in mind that it doesnt rain all summer long, and there is plenty of sun while not being too hot.
I hope you actually choose to listen to someone with a brain instead of listening to spoiled assholes and idiots from Long Island who's mommy and daddy are paying for everything and have no idea what the real world is like.
Binghamton is actually a nice place if you know how to make the most of it and dont just sit in your dorm room and smoke pot all day.

Lived here my whole life, and let me tell you: The scum that finds its way to BU from the City is not wanted here or wherever they came from, hence their being here. I know for a fact that some of the NYC people that head to BU are COOL GUYS WHO DONT AFRAID OF ANYTHING but the majority are terrible pieces of shit who, because they choose not to accept the local culture, decide to tell the world (that doesn't want to hear it) that Binghamton isn't worth mapping. Well we would much rather watch you all drive your BMWs off a cliff in a mass suicide like lemmings than listen to your constant whining and pathetic outcries for sympathy. Were born and raised in these conditions and have gotten along fine. Why can't you? Because you are worthless cocaine addicts, of course. You knew that. Your $130/hour therapist just didnt tell you that when you were crying for mom. Go home.

A place to get crunk and party, if you know the right place to go (99 Chestnut in its hey day). With no ID necessary and more booze than you could throw a fresher at, its a place to party. Especially Parade day/ St Paddys.
Did you see the Binghamton parade? Nah Bro I was far too wasted

The cloudiest and grayest city in the country, like Seattle but without any culture, full of horrible people from all walks of life. It used to be a booming industrial town, now it's a rust belt refuse. You meet a new breed of asshole here, the upstate asshole. The upstate asshole likes to hunt, thinks that making potatoe launchers and tipping cows is fun. The upstate asshole males and females only know how to have fun by drinking the lowest quality of beer in large quantities because there is absolutely nothing to do here besides get wasted and puke, hoping that they can forget how miserable it is to be here. Full of trash, criminals, hunters, bible-thumpers and just overall ignorance; this town is representative of a lot of what is wrong with this country as a whole. Many people from the city, Long Island and other 'downstate' areas choose to go to the SUNY at Binghamton because it has a good reputation and is about twenty thousand dollars cheaper than the other schools they got into.

Muddy. Expect every pair of shoes to be ruined.
Binghamton has no sidewalks.
