Card games: A Bridge or Whist
hand of 13 cards that contains no 'honor', any card higher in rank than a nine.
Named after the Earl of Yarborough, an 18th-century English nobleman, who,
tired of hearing his colleagues complain of holding worthless cards, laid 1000-1 odds against holding such a bad
hand. He did well, since the true odds are closer to 2000-1.
