Theonormatism

Attitude that belief in “God” or in transcendence is the norm.

Marginalization and denigration of atheism by considering it a form of religion, thus denying the sincerity of atheists.

By establishing belief in the supernatural as a norm, theonormatism makes atheism culturally invisible: only when individuals clearly affirm their atheism or are publicly perceived as atheists do they become visible and discriminated against by society. (François Doyon)
