Secchi 

To pull a Secchi is to bail out at the last moment from an arrangement and give any reason other than the truth. Secchis are most likely to occur in the early stages of courtship.

Pete can't make it to the pub quiz, he says he's washing his hair but I think he's pulling a secchi.

Only used in plural form, especially for cheap stuff.
