He got the faculty job because he publicated like crazy during his postdoc, even though he just tagged along to other people's projects and first-authored some papers in journals nobody reads.1

First Publication Excitement 

FPE is the intense enthusiasm one has after finally getting one of their definitions published on "Urban Dictionary" (which is usually preceded by numerous failing attempts and "Sorry, --- was not published" e-mails)

It is frequently followed by the melancholy of noticing that nobody has viewed the definition and the only thumbs up it's got is the one the writer gave themselves right at that moment (See: First Publication Disappointment)

A: Hey, hey, I just checked my e-mail, UD finally published my definition of !@#!#, let's see how much of the world agree with me.
A's Alter Ego: Don't have the "First Publication Excitement" just yet, no one cares.
A: Stop being such a mood-killer. I hate you!
