Promiswear

Borderline between a promise and a swear. A promise strong enough to be a swear, but not enough to be a swear. Used by those who think swearing is bad. It can be a strong commitment or reassurance of something.
"I will buy you your medicine. I promiswear."

"Don't be sad, everything will be alright. I promiswear."

"I don't like anybody else. You are the only person for me in the world. I promiswear."

promisery note

A contract that typically gives moderate-to-acute grief to one or both parties.
Lending money is never a good idea, but it can be especially painful between family and friends, since their promisery notes can create tension in their amicable feelings if things do not proceed exactly as planned.

Promiseering

Promiseering is the cynical use of promises to obtain consent or support from a base for a short term course of action that secures a position of leverage for the promiser, with the option of abandoning the promise when the leverage is obtained.
During election campaigns, some politicians may resort to promiseering tactics to secure the vote for themselves.

abandonware

n. software that is no longer sold or supported by the original publisher / developer, often found as free downloads on the internet because it cannot be obtained elsewhere. Not legal, but often seen as morally acceptable because the company that made it is no longer selling the title, nor releasing it as freeware, therefore abandonware is "keeping the game alive", so to speak.
Doom II is not abandonware because id still sells it, while The Incredible Machine is not sold, therefore is abandonware.
