Pejorative and dismissive term used by self titled patriots to collectively refer to all that is wrong with the world and any individual or group who does not agree with them.
Uses:
1). Euphemism: frequently applied in instances where the user would prefer to use more derogative racial, religious and class slurs but is afraid to reveal their true beliefs publicly.
2). Political: Applied to all opposing belief systems that do not priorly qualify for inclusion under the definition of pure evil. (See: Other Nations).
3). Religious: applied to groups or individuals that do not demonstratively subscribe to any or all of the holy trinity or Guns, Gold and God. (Refer: Godless Liberals).
4). Education: Applied to anyone who uses words such as demonstratively (Refer: Educated Liberal Elite).
5). Civil rights: Applied to anyone or organisation seeking to restrict the inalienable conservative right to discriminate against, deny liberty to or restrict personal freedoms of those they don’t like, disagree with or fear. (Hist: Afro Americans, Mexicans, Homosexuals).

Technically, Liberalism is at the center of the political spectrum. In UK politics, this position is championed by the Liberal Democrat Party. However, in the US, 'Liberal' is often used to describe members of the Democratic Party, despite the Democratic Party occupying the socialist area of the spectrum, much like the Labour Party.

Typically, an American who is in support of more personal freedoms, (the right for everyone to vote, marry, protest, etc.) but less economic freedom (in favor of regulated economy and higher taxes for the rich). A liberal falls to the left of the center on a lateral political spectrum, as opposed to a conservative, who falls to the right. A conservative tends to support more economic freedom (less regulation of business and lower taxes for everyone) but less personal freedom (e.g. only straights should be allowed to marry, sex should only be between married heterosexuals, recreational drugs should be illegal)

However, in contemporary America some conservatives and liberals have abandoned much of the anti-freedom pretense (in a personal and economic sense), and have become somewhat libertarian. (someone who believes the people should have as many personal and economic freedoms as possible while still maintaining a peaceful, civilized society)

Not willing to allow old people to die as they are unable to afford to heat their homes just to promote capitalism
They do not want to arm everyone with guns

Now obviously some liberals go too far and this is what gives them and a bad name and associates them with being a "liberal hippie douche". and promote disgusting policies such as affirmative action (Giving non-whites more rights than whites in essence). And some of them are far too anti-war. But generally they have the correct policies.

In other words, modern day heroes. If we ever make it to, say, 2150, it will be thanks to liberals and environmentalists.

.A person, in general, who is much more educated and informed than the average conservative. Who thinks an expert trained in their field is more knowledgeable than a talk show host. Who thinks we on earth should solve our problems rather than the invisible man in the sky. Who can back up what they say by checking facts and sources. Who knows the difference between facts-knowledge and faith-belief. Who believes in science and doesn't think scientists are conspiring to present falsities as facts to advance some sinister agenda. Who cares more about people than money. Who love more than they hate. Who knows a system based on greed can not fulfill the greater good but instead empowers con men, and all manner of criminals. Who understands that the rich and powerful will lord over everyone else unless the government imposes some restraint. Who fought for workers rights, such as the abolition of child labor, the 40 hour workweek, overtime pay, workers comp.,the right to organize collectively, equal rights and pay for women and many many other rights. All of these advances were fought by the cons. Most of which they would turn back if they could. Who want to progress into the future rather than retrogress into a fairy tail past.
