The fourth-largest city in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. This city is home to numerous coal mines, as well as a major university, the Horlivka Institute for Foreign Languages. Many famous Ukrainians came from Horlivka, such as chessmaster Ruslan Ponomariov and the metal band Jinjer.

In 2014, Horlivka was captured by Russian terrorists and incorporated into the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic". During this, Russian terrorists would kidnap and torture Horlivka city councillor and former policeman Volodymyr Rybak for refusing to take down the Ukrainian flag from the city and submit to the Russians. Rybak would be awarded posthumously with the highest honor of Ukraine

After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Ukraine launched an offensive toward Horlivka. They managed to capture the western half of the city. If Ukraine succeds in completely retaking the city and holding it, this puts the Russian terrorists of the "DPR" in danger, as the road to Donetsk will be cleared.

Horlivka is Ukraine, as shown by Volodymyr Rybak.
I'm surprised how many famous Ukrainians came from the industrial city of Horlivka.
