Formally Stated Godwin's Third Law is: For every mention of Godwin's Law, there will be an equal and opposite negative reaction. The statement means that in every interaction on the internet, where there is a pair of opposing opinions a reverence to Nazism or Hilter will be made, followed by some reference to Godwin's Law ; immediately followed in turn by a reference of Godwin's Law (see Godwin's Second Law) and then inevitably a further remark, usually made by a third party stating that Godwin's Law does not apply or that any mentioning Godwin's Law is somehow shouting down the argument . With each level ofassertion Godwin's law the BS level grows exponentially.
Third Party: Godwins "law" is really just an internet trend. It is NOT an actual law, nor is it part of actual debate or logic.
Forth Party: Ha ha! Godwin's Third Law - you lose.

Get the Godwin's Third Law mug.
Godwin's Law states that "the longer a heated Internet discussion goes on for, the more likely it is that someone will compare their opponent(s) to Hitler, the Nazis, or Nazi Germany in general."
Anyone who invokes Godwin's Law in an argument is said to automatically lose by default, even if it is perfectly reasonable; because if you resort to comparing your opponent to arguably the most evil dictator in the world obviously implies that A) You know you're wrong, B) You've run out of ideas, and C) You're a sore loser and want to make your opponent look bad, even though it does the exact opposite.

The only (incredibly rare) exception is if the person is legitimately comparable to him (for example, if they are massively racist, especially anti-Semitic, for no discernible reason), but even then it usually still has the same result.
