" A slang term for people of Russian decent that immigrated too Canada during the turn of the century. they were simple farmers that opposed material wealth.
Dukabours had to produce their own food. They planted gardens and picked wild berries. Fruits and vegetables were preserved by pickling or drying. Jams and jellies were made. Food was stored in a root cellar. Fruits and vegetables were also sold to the general store in exchange for other goods.

Doukabour

A hard working, Russian decent, who immigrated to Canada in the 1800’s. The women were exceptionally opinionated and demanded respectful. In that same aspect, the men decided the women should pull the phoughs and not have the heavy horse prints in the seeded field and/or garden. So they did. The Doukabour bread and Borscht is to die for. Vegetarians at heart to be believed.
After heartbreaking news, this woman handled her herself with class, dignity, and charm. Defiantly a Doukabour woman.
