Dipak means an object that emits light. Classically, it is an earthen bowl about 10 cm in diameter with oil (or ghee) with a vick coming out from one side. It is typically lit in Indian, and particularly Gujarati, homes during Diwali as a celebraion of lights.

While Dipak burns, it provides light in its surroundings.
