Alabama is a southern state squished between Mississippi and Georgia. There are a few nicknames for Alabama, such as: Yellow Hammer State, Heart of Dixie, and the Cotton State. It's motto is "Audemus jura nostra defendere," which is Latin for "We dare defend our rights."

The largest city (by land area) in Alabama is Huntsville, and the largest Metropolitan statistical area is the greater Birmingham area. Alabama was admitted into the union on December 14, 1819, it was the twenty second state to enter the union.

Alabama is considered to be an illiterate state, filled to the brim with incest and racist rednecks carrying guns. As you've probably already noticed, Alabama is a state with people in it. Like, real people. People that make decisions for them selves and their families. But, not every person in Alabama is the same.

Alabama does not have the best education system, but I've heard their working on it. Alabama is full of a lot of old people (I'm serious, I think the water is magic down there) and they still carry the same beliefs they were raised with. So yeah, the old people are a pretty racist so they raised their kids with severely biased opinions. But the generation of young people now aren't that bad, sure there are plenty of people with their own differing opinions, but that's their opinions not the whole population of the state.
Alabama is a state, just like any other state. It may not sound as exciting as California or New York. But, it's still pretty cool.

A state in the Southeastern U.S.
Contrary to what some may some may claim, Alabama does indeed play host to certain literate individuals (including this definition's poster).
Alabama does not consist of racists, hicks, and rednecks any more than any other state. Everyone has their share, and hopefully, is moving away from that sad reality.
Alabama has several major cities, including Birmingham, Mobile, Huntsville, and Montgomery, as well as military bases of varying size and import.
Alabama is politically conservative, at least on the national front, but that does not necessitate that every single individual is an obnoxious Bible-thumper intolerant of non-mainstream-Christian practices, beliefs, and lifesyles.
Alabama's public education system could use some work, but that's true for many states.
Alabama is inhabited by all kinds of people, so of course induvidual experiences will vary based on location. Northern Alabama is very different in many facets of culture from Central Alabama, and both are equally distinct from Southern Alabama. Similar, again, to every other political region larger than a few square miles.
"Brah, I'm movin' to Alabama! Totally psyched!"

"Aren't they all evil, obnoxious, drunken incest babies running around with guns down there, who shoot you for being remotely different?"

"... No. No, they're not."

God's Anus.

I've lived in Alabama for 16 years. I'm 18 years old. Alabama can be a nice state at times, when it comes to football and hospitality. But if you even dare to mention anything that goes against the bible or the republicans, you might get shot.
There are rednecks, racists, and an overwhelming amount of black people.
But, if one took the time to look into the state and it's standings today, one might realize that this state is no longer what it used to be. There are more and more schools that are teaching from an education point of view, and not a religion-filled point of view. Yes, there are schools where religion is the foundation. But most of the schools, public, magnet, and private, are branching out and showing the students how to accept everything and everyone and to live life THEIR way and not someone elses' way. There are democrats living here, contrary to popular belief. There are goths, emos, gangsters, scene kids, indie kids, and all the rest of the stereotypes here too.

If you want to find a place where there are a lot of nice people who only act friendly to you if you're nice to them, or if you want to find a place where there aren't that many big name attractions, where you can live a life of solitude, then I recomend Alabama.
But if you want to live somewhere where you can be accepted no matter who you are, what you are, where you're from and why you're there, then I suggest you go to the north, west, or upper east.
Alabama is nice, but it isn't for me.

A State and State of Mind - and some might say a Black Sucking Hole. Born & raised... I then managed to escape for 20 years. Later I somehow got sucked back down to Dixie for what was supposed to be temporary... that was 5 years ago (Bama years = dog years, so that's 35 actually). It has beautiful country, ocean, flat lands, mountains, waterfalls, etc. And even FREE thinkers but only in Birmingham on the Southside. Politically the state is firmly in the hands of the GOP. White democrats (aka Dixiecrats) rushed like lemmings from the Democratic side to the Republican as a result of the GOP’s rhetoric on states rights. By capitalizing on white fear, they successfully rode the civil rights movement in the 50s and 60s to victory. In Alabama, it being the BUCKLE of the Bible Belt, there are many puritanical religious zealots that think Bill Clinton put an x-ray vision satellite in space that flies over every night and counts their guns. No lie... there are those who wrap their pistols in aluminum foil so they won’t get counted.
Now sugah, don't be forgittin' to wrap that pistol back up in aluminum foil when you git done shootin'that possum. Yes, Clinton's satellite flies over Alabama tonight so now don't forgit. And watch out for that damn sink hole! It keeps gittin' bigger and bigger every day.

Alabama is a beautiful state. I've lived here nearly my whole life, and I've yet to meet a "sister aunt" or an "uncle dad". I know a load of well educated people and I am one of them. There are some overweight people, but not all of us Alabamians are. We can put a load of salt on certain foods, but we don't always. I know that some racists live in Alabama, but every state has racism. Alabama is truly amazing and I want to live here all my life.
