I always make my wife do the fluffing of the Christmas Tree before we decorate it. She is so much more thorough at it.

Using an excessive preamble to set the stage and therefore manipulate for a simple, straightforward request. The person making the request is the fluffer and the recipient of the request or the person being fluffed.
"I know you're probably not going to like this and I most likely don't deserve it and I know I've promised to not ask again, especially since I just asked yesterday, but could I borrow the car for one more trip to town, whereas the person responds with, quit fluffing me.
