Goth, although once an expression of individuality, is now a commercial image sold by big business. They now have shops such as Emily the Strange that promote and sell the goth image. If you shop at such places you are buying something that everyone can have and probably does have. Ergo, you are not a true goth who wishes to be individual.
Goth, as well as many other social groups, is a box that people are put in so we can organise society. People are labelled to make it easier for others to relate to them. I exhibit many chracteristics of a goth (outlook of the world, sense of humour ect,) but am I one? No. This is because I choose not to buy into a commercial image that has been ruined by our "friends" big business and lemming teenagers.
So, if we follow this philosiphy, everyone who calls themself a goth is a poser and everyone who dresses like a goth is just buying into a commercial entity and is therefore a sellout and a poser.

Get the gothmug. preservers of ancient spiritual culture. hence why even though people would diagree being a goth is to adhere to the gothic religion... all those famous things or secrets of our world not known in words yet ie (still unwritten law)...the celebration of old religions and/or cultures , or people (that have often died).. the gothic must not make up what he represents ie they cannot celebrate a false god for example or he is gothic towards himself he has lost what he considers his or her true self and hence they dress up like they are dead ... it is a religion based on true exprience be it people in the past or themselves

You probably seek to make yourself seem different and show your individuality... although, ohwait. Now you look just like all the other "goths".
You also probably like to say you don't care what anyone thinks, though you spend a hell of a lot of time doing your makeup and hair whenever you go out.
It's also very likely that you're overweight and bisexual.
Many "goths" also hate that people treat them differently and "pick on them", and get sad/angry about it.

Really and truely a goth is someone who wants to be different and not follow the crowd..and it doesn't matter if someone looks at you because you look different and have on dark eyeliner and are listening to deathstar asembly....but then agian goths don't really like to call themselves goths because that's not what we really are we are followers on the night....and to clear things up Vampire goths really don't like to drink blood and are usually not into Satanism I'm a wiccan....I do get blood cravings but they usually go away after a little while...

Get the gothmug. A person of average or ugly appearance that attempts to draw attention to themselves by dressing in all black and/or doing their make-up badly. This goes for males and females. Males with black nail polish are especially needy bc why else would you want to wear such an ugly color on ur hands? Males and females usually have oddly colored hair that makes you wonder if they meant it to look like it got stuck in a cotton candy maker. Also, they listen to music in which you cannot understand any of the words over the loud and pathetic guitars in the background. They say they frown upon social norms when all they really want is to be like the rest of society, but they fear they will be rejected, therefore they are social hermits that form fragile friendships in which drugs and sex are their biggest links to each other.

I want to get noticed more by dressing and acting like a freak, yet still insisting I'm beautiful and different. I think I'll become a Goth.
