A person who:
A) Changes the team they support
B) Supports more than one team
C) Has never been to see their team
Common misconceptions surrounding Plastic Fans suggest that they might know very little about the club’s history. However, in an attempt to overcompensate their shortcomings as a fan they meticulously research their club’s history a lot. If someone had supported another club/s then switched to their local, they are still considered to be plastic. The television or a stadium tour is not applicable to seeing your club play. You may only switch teams if your current goes into liquidation or relocates away.
These are the rules to see if you are a plastic fan. If you adhere to any of the above rules, you are a plastic fan.

Plastic fans are basically glory hunters. The most common example of a plastic fan is a man city supporter. If Newcastle’s takeover is completed you will be seeing many new plastic fans most of them will be former man city fans because they are plastic.

The term 'plastic fan' is a phase that has been coined across the last 15 years or so to describe those people who follow a team without any real affinity to the club in question. An example of this is Matthew Bentley.
Matthew Bentley is a plastic fan because he supports Chelsea although he's never been to a Chelsea home game.
