As a nickname or form of: ♀ names Nicole/Nichole Nicolena/Nicolina Nicola Nikita Nicolette Nicoletta & a derivative of ♂ names Nicolas/Nichola (with spelling differences like: Niki Nikki Nicky/Nickie/Nikkee Nico/Niko Nick/Nik.) being commonly used today. Originally, the name was derived from the Latin form Nicholas in Greek French & English meaning "Victory of The People" or "People's Victory." It is associated also with Saint Nicholas or "Santa" with a further connotation of a 'giver of gifts,'/'he/she who brings what is needed." Yet, in some Francophonic dialects, Nik (pronouced 'NEEk' giving emphasis on the first portion of the one syllable) implies a sexual nature, & often, especially with Arabic in Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Syria, and Djibouti, is a direct translation of the 'curse' word 'fuck.' To the extent that there may be those unwillingly to address a person by this name. *This is not a personal issue, as many people may feel, however. In Urban Culture, however, especially within America, and in particular to the eras of the 70s & 80s, the name Niki, of whatever spelling, was & sometimes, may still, be indicative of Prostitution having transformed toward a ♀ of low ethics/maturity/sexual virture. A name that can be used for both male and female. In my opinion, the name Niki shows love and compassion. Most of the people I met with this name comes off as kind and respectful. They tend to think about others more than themselves. They are very wholesome and responsible. They also have great humor and a very optimistic mindset.
