Get the Harry Potter mug.
An extremely good book series by British author J.K. Rowling. The main charactor is Harry James Potter, the wizard who defeated the darkest wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort, at the age of one. Harry grew up with his aunt, uncle, and cousin until he was ten because his parents sacrificed their lives for him. As Harry begins his education at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, he learns of his parentage, gains new friends, and faces Voldemort a few more times. Oh, and don't forget the magic!
There are seven books in the whole series, each depicting a school year of Harry's life, plus an epilogue:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The first five books have also been turned into movies, and the sixth is currenting being filmed. The films star Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ronald Weasley, Harry's best friend, and Emma Watson, as Hermione Granger, Harry's other best friend. The seventh book will also be made into a movie shortly after the sixth.

As well as movies, the books have also spawned a number of video games based (unfortunatley) on the movies.

The best part of the gargantuan Harry Potter fandom by far has to be the music. There are currently hundreds of bands popping up all over the world in the genre Wizard Rock, also known as WROCK. The bands range from a few recordings edited in Garageband, to the professional sounds of bands like Harry and the Potters (who started the genre), the Ministry of Magic, the Remus Lupins, and the Moaning Myrtles. There are so many out there! Most have a Myspace page with songs available to download, but some (like the ones mentioned above) have even made their way to iTunes. Keep on WROCKing and Rowling, you guys!
NEVER REVEAL SPOILERS!! Like this:

p1: Omg, do then Harry Potter was totally like-
p2: NOOOO! SPOILERS ARE EVIL!!! (totally kills p1)

...Spoilers will kill you if used incorrectly.

Get the Harry Potter mug.
1. Series of books for some unknown reason constantly referenced against "Lord of the Rings"
2. A CHILDREN'S series of books, which I read and thought, "hmmm, 1 and 3 were good but 2, 4, and 5 were complete garbage" but then I realized they were CHILDREN'S BOOKS - and kids would love 'em, hell, be scared to death by them, and now, whenever I work with kids and they act like Draco Malfoy I say "Behave, or I'll sick Voldemort on you!" and they shit the bed and behave for days on end.
3. A series of books often compared to "Lord of the Rings" and then I realize that I define "apple" as an orange, segmented fruit, with an orange peel... oh wait, I'm comparing apples to oranges!!!
1. "Harry Potter is not nearly as cool as Frodo Baggins" as eluded to by all the retarded dicks who feel this way and post to this webpage - see def. 1 and 3.
2. "If you little fuckers don't stop screaming, I'll go Voldemort ALL OVER YOUR ASS!!" - see def 2.

Get the Harry Potter mug.
A seven-part novel and movie series written by English writer, J. K. Rowling, following the tale of an orphan, Harry Potter, who one day discovers he is the most famous wizard of all, having defeated the Dark Lord Voldemort at the age of one. From this attack, Harry Potter recieved a lightning bolt shaped scar. Harry and his friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger fight against Dark magic to defeat Lord Voldemort once and for all.

Harry Potter is seriously misjudged as most people say it supports the occult, is childish, and boring. Most of the people who say this have not read the series, and have no right to criticize it.
Guy: I just read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Girl: Harry Potter is so stupid. J. K. Rowling is using her books to promote the occult. Not to mention that they're children's books. Why would you read something like that?? Oh, and let's not forget how boring it is to read!

Guy: Have you actually read Harry Potter?

Girl: I wouldn't waste my time.

Guy: You're a dumbass.

Lord of the Rings for kiddies and people with tiny attention spans who cannot stand to take the time to read and understand true works of literature. An inferior series about the escapades of the main character, Harry Potter, who bears a lightning-bolt shaped scar on his forehead where his brain was extracted.
And in the news today, lynchings and riots have been reported across the nation as Harry Potter fanboys mobbed nearly every bookstore they could find, trying desperately to get a copy of the newest installment of the Harry Potter book series, entitled "Harry Potter and the House of Ho's".
