Refurs STRICTLY to young boys. Female shota is colled Lolli.
Shota, or more commonly in Japan; Syouta, is LEAGAL in Japan because the age of concent is 13 there. Rather than attracting gay men, this appeals to young Japanese girls & one of my friends. Because of how popular it is & how well it sells & since 2D drawings are harmless, shota will not become illigal in Japan any time soon.

In Japan, BL is the "modern" term for Shounenai, deffinition meaning "Boys love." No matter how you spell it, english or kanji, you will get NOTHING on shounenai on a Japanese search engine, save dead sites refurring to retro mangas from the 70s & 80s.

|
One of the 3 stages of male beauty most men will never achieve, esp. if they're 3 dimensional & non-asian.
Bisyouta/Bishota: Cute little boy. (usually around 13, wich in Japan, is the age of concent) Bishounen (commonly mispelled as bishonen); A boy around 14-19 who has femanine qualities & youthfullness that enhance his physical appearence. Biseinen; A man who has retained androgynous beauty after becoming an adult. The more manly looking or handsome a man is, the LESS bishounen he is. For example; FF7 & Bakuretsu hunters;
Marron/Vincent; Bishounen/Biseinen. Cid/Gateau; not biseinen.

Bunneah was half right, but the prepubesent boys genre is refurred to as Syouta (Shota to American fans)
Shounenai, like Tanbi, is no longer written. It was replaced by BL (Boys' Love) which are much more likely to have happy endings & have less drama. Japanese girls will litteraly roll their eyes at you if they hear you say shounenai ai instead of BL.

Litterally "Wannabe Japanese" American slang for anyone who isn't Japanese but wishes they were.
Sympoms include: 1)Dissing your country & race. 2)An Excessive J-rock/J-pop/J-metal/J-Tech/J-Goth/J-Rap CD collection, music videos & wall posters. 3)An extencive Japanese slang vocabulary from music, fashion, lifestyles, books, etc. Words like "Visual Kei" "Gothic Lolita" "Ganguro" "Kogal" "Otaku" "Cosplay" "Yaoi" "Doujinshi" "Para-Para" "Parasite singles" & "Con" 4)Being a total geek about Japanese sent fandoms like games & animations & being really really proud about it. 5)If you think that Japanese sounds sexier & that the Japanese are sexier & that they have better taste in everything from music to chewing gum. 6)They tend to know trivial facts beyond slang like Japanese minimum wage & why Halajuku & Shinjuku are the coolest places to visit & they contridict you on your pronounciation. "My sister is sooo Wapanese! She sings totmare & Vidoll & Gackt all the time, she has really convincing crossressers pinned to her wall, none of her videos or books are in English, she wont date guys of her own race, she hangs out at Starbucks alot, & she refurs to her sleeping bag as a futon."

| 6. | Hide | ||

Equilly popular with former drummer Yoshiki, this former guitarist saddened all of Japan. He was rich & had a new album he was working on, hardly depressing. He came home drunk one night & hung himself with a towel. Many believe he was murdered but it couln't possibly have been an "accident" A large museum was deticated to him after death. Ironically, Hizumi from early Madeth Gray'll died on the same day. Also, a friend of Hide's from early Das:Vasser died in a car crash on the way to his funeral.

Commonly just BL is the replacement for Shounenai. Americans seem to have difficulty telling the difference, so here it is.
SA: The men are always effeminate both in appearence & personality, gay men didn't like it much, & unhappy endings were common. Contrary to perhaps even my own previous postings, this art is not COMPLETELY dead, some shounenai slips through the press. If it's new & fots this description, it's still shounenai. BL: These days the men are more masculine both in looks & tude, gay men like it too, it's usually less dramatic, more sexual, & tends to end happily. Shounenai: Ibu no Musukotachi, Kaze to Ki no Uta, & anything else from the 70s & early 80s.
Boyslove: Ai no Kusabi, BNSH, Gravitation, Fake, Ja-Dou, Psycho Blast. Border line: Anything that lived through both periods. For example, Patalirro, Zetsuai, & Eroica are STILL being written & have made distinct changes to fit the times.
