The official currency of the Republic of Ireland prior to the comming of the Euro. People usually referred to them as pounds as the official name was technically the Irish for 'pound', as a result the official name was more commonly used when speaking Irish.

Irish Defence Force

Founded in 1922, the Irish Defence Force is the rightful owner of the abbreviation IDF at least in the defence force world seen as the Israeli Defence Forces were founded in 1948.
IDF doesn't mean Israeli Defence Force! It means Irish Defence Force!
