TYT is an acronym referring to "The Young Turks," which is a online partisan alternative media outlet that streams, most notably, on YouTube. Disturbingly, the outlet's name, chosen by its central founder Cenk Uygur, is taken from a political movement responsible for the Armenian Genocide. The outlet claims to provide in-depth analyses not found in the more mainstream news outlets; however, most of the information TYT obtains is lifted from conventional news sites and TYT’s analysis of that information typically consists of nothing more than a uninformed opinion by its presenters. The tone of the "reporting" and "analyses" is frequently vulgar, simplistic, and presented in a highly dichotomized (good vs. evil) fashion. TYT has been heavily criticized for its frequent use of “yellow journalism” tactics. Exaggerations, scandal-mongering, lying by omission, hypocrisy, failure to fact-check and retract errors are all commonly observed to occur.
