American Invitation Mathematics Examination. A 15 question test that is 3 hours long that is only given to those who score well enough on the AMC 10 or 12. Your AMC 10/12 score is used in combination with your AIME score to determine whether you qualify for USAMO or not. Unlike AMC 10/12, there is no multiple choice and the answer to each question is an integer from 000 to 999, inclusive. The first few questions are about the same difficulty as late AMC 10/12, but the difficulty ramps up as you progress further in the test.
Great. Questions 12, 14, and 15 on this AIME are all geometry. Late AIME geometry problems are always very hard.

American Mathematics Competition. A 25 question test held every year in February in America that is 75 minutes long. The first few questions are relatively easy, but the last 5 questions are usually very brutal. It is split into AMC 10 for students who are in 10th grade or below and AMC 12 for students who are in 12th grade or below.

If you aren't talking to people who are good at math, they'll think you are referring to the movie theater when you say "AMC."
Jeffrey: How did you do on the AMC 12?

David: Ugh, I thought I got 22 questions correct, but I made stupid mistakes on 4 of them.
