The Roman Catholic pope is sometimes called the white pope, in distinction to the "black pope" or the "red pope".

Red Pope

A nickname for the cardinal who heads the Vatican's Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. Used because cardinals wear scarlet robes and the congregation has lots of power in missionary countries.

Cardinal Ivan Dias is the current Red Pope.
