One who tessellates - makes mosaics with small pieces which may be tiles, pebbles, sand, uniform or irregular shaped materials, or virtual objects like pixels.
Early digital artists (as in computer game design) were tessellaters, working right at the pixel level, rather than drafting with vectors or painting with complex semi-transparent brushes or constructing 3D forms which are increasingly common.
