A critical term used to attack the USA Democrat Party on the grounds that:
1. it has become like the old Soviet Union or other former / current communist nations in terms of infringements on private property, freedom of speech, and certain civil liberties (gun ownership and private property taking in particular).
2. it sides with the enemies of the USA or has become anti-American in general.

An October Surprise can also mean a political challenger's orchestrated and delayed release of damaging information about an incumbent opponent just in time for an election.
Some political operatives had known about Mark Foley's pecadilloes for months in advance, but chose a timed release of the news as an October Surprise.
