The AIM-9 Sidewinder is a Short-Range Air-to-Air missile adopted by the US Navy in 1956 and adopted by the US Airforce in 1964. The AIM-9 is considered one of the most successful western short-range air-to-air missiles, and is still used by numerous Nations around the world; and with the Block III still in development, it is likely that the AIM-9 will remain in service for many years to come.

The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is an American Single-Seat All-Weather Stealth Air-Superiority Fighter, it is equipped with two Pratt and Whitney F119 engines which allow it to achieve a maximum speed of Mach 2.2 (1,500mph; 2,414km/h). It utilizes three internal weapon bays: a large main bay on the fuselage, and two smaller bays on either side of the fuselage; the main bay can accommodate six AIM-120 AMRAAMs and both smaller bays can accommodate one AIM-9 Sidewinder. This results in a standard load-out of six AIM-120s and two AIM-9s, in addition to an internally mounted M61A2 Vulcan 20mm cannon.
