Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act. A Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records, until the student is 18 or reaches a university.
The Purdue Queer Student Union painted a mural of the wrestling team on the window of a West Lafayette business for Homecoming week. The wrestlers became offended, and a few removed the mural from the window. The PQSU facilitated in the punishment of the wrestlers, but were unable to learn their names thatnks to FERPA.
