A first responder is an induvidual who has completed a USDOT approved 40-hour course. Similar in training to an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B), first responders are capable of providing basic emergency medical care such as cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automatic defibrillation, bleeding control, splinting, and assisting with childbirth.

The people who most commonly become first responders are firefighters, law enforcement officers, lifeguards, camp counselors, school staff, industrial workers, and any other person who may be the first to come in contact with a medical emergency.
While employed at the automtive plant, Mike witnessed a machinery accident, in which a co-woker became seriously injured. With his first responder training, Mike was able to stop the bleeding until the paramedics arrived.

With her first responder training, Brooke saved a drowning victim at the local pool.
