An outcome of events that is different to that of what or might have been expected or tried to be prevented happens BECAUSE you tried to stop it.
e.g.
Bob : I got an injection that should of stopped me getting cancer but instead it caused cancer and I could die any minute.
Bill : Well that's irony for ya
Bob : It sure is *laughs*
