A piercing that is one of the oldest and most primitive. In ancient cultures around the world, such as Indian, North and South American Indigenous, African, and SouthEast Asian, these piercings were associated with shamans and spiritual leaders, or mystics, who donned the piercing as a symbol of spiritual consciousness , often believing that the piercing enhanced communication with the higher realms.
