A change made to an old saying followed by the claim that this new version was the original all along.

Inspired by retcon (shortened from "RETroactive CONtinuity"), a retcoin is a retroactively coined phrase.
1. "The customer is always right" is not the original saying; it has been shortened. The original was "the customer is always right in matters of taste."
That's not true; that's a retcoin. "In matters of taste" was not part of the original saying.

2. The original saying is, "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb."
No, that's just a retcoin. "Blood is thicker than water" is a proverb that goes back almost a thousand years; the "covenant" stuff was retcoined in much later in the 20th century.
