The act of making a shallow, public apology on the internet via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, etc.) rather than performing actions that would resolve the issue at hand.

The origin of the definition arose when Macklemore Instagramed his apology text to Kendrick Lamar stating that Lamar "got robbed" after he won Best Rap Album at the Grammys late January 2014.
"Mr. President, the people demand that you respond regarding the NSA leaks!"

"Don't worry, just send out an Instagram Apology and it will go away in a few weeks."

"Or we could... you know, stop spying on people?"

"What kind of option is that?
