Let's say, hypothetically

Share definition Flag
"Let's say, hypothetically" is an infamous phrase often used by popular right-wing journalist Ben Shapiro during debates. It has become popular online to create memes satirizing Ben Shapiro by using phrases he commonly uses, such as "Let's say, hypothetically", or "for the sake of the argument".
"Let's say you've been a bad girl. Let's say, hypothetically, you've been a naughty girl even. Ok, and if you were a naughty girl, you would be my dirty little slut right? Then hypothetically speaking, you would be my little cumslut. Now, let's say you're also daddy's girl. Now that we have established that you are both a bad girl and daddy's girl, I believe you'd agree with me when I say that you deserve a spanking. Am I not correct? A bad girl deserves a spanking, and as I am daddy, you are my girl, so I am the one who must provide punishment"

"What the fuck?"

Guy 1: But let's say I was.
Guy 2: But what if you weren't?
Guy 1: But let's just imagine that, hypothetically, I was.
Guy 2: But let's just imagine that, hypothetically, you weren't?
Guy 1: Stop goin' all hypothetical warfare on me, douchebag!

Etc.

An adverb thrown into a sentence when the speaker wants to describe a situation but does not want to reveal that it is actually true.

Hypothetical High Five

Share definition Flag
A form of high five that requires no physical contact. The two (or more) participants simply look at each other and say "Nice!" after one of them initiates the high five. The way this high five is started is that someone yells out "Hypothetical high five!" after which the participants count three Mississippis before saying "Nice." Friends who see each other often and use this form of high five frequently often develop facial cues instead of counting Mississippis before saying "Nice!" People who have trouble making eye contact with others have a hard time performing this high five and it is often impossible for them to perfect the timing.

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

- Harold Koh
