Mostly used when commenting on and complimenting art: refers to the artist's choice in colors in a color scheme. A good coloring hand in any painting or drawing takes advantage of complimentary colors (example: blue, green, and or purple) and or conflicting colors (example: red and green)and makes the picture clear. A bad coloring hand is one where the colors conflict so much that it becomes too busy and complex on the eye therefore confusing the viewer.
The artist's coloring hand is best shown when he's using earth tones rather than just using solid colors from the color wheel.
