charnel house

1. a building where human remains are kept
2. any site of death, destruction or particularly unsettling awfulness. Sometimes used with "of" to specify the type of awfulness.
With the soil too rocky for decent graves, a charnel house was built to contain the dead.

I've seen some brilliant productions at Crash Dive Theater, but their new artistic director has made the place a charnel house of sticky-sweet scripts, nauseating set designs, and acting performances so devoid of life that the entire audience goes home traumatized.
