A chemical reaction in which tape media formats like VHS and audio cassettes are contaminated with crystal-like white powders. This occurs when storing tapes on a bad environment or being unused for a long time. Moldy tapes are easy to damage devices that use magnetic tapes, and can make them unplayable.

Moldy tapes are very easy to remediate, but it can be a time-consuming practice.
My old VHS tapes were infected with the infamous White Mold Disease, so I'm glad that I cured them by removing white powders.
