It is similar to the friend zone however instead of saying "you're just like a friend to me" the individual says "but you're just like a dog to me, or a cat, a bird, a fish, a hamster, etc.

Jamien got on one knee to propose to his girlfriend but she said "aw that's cute but you're just like a dog to me" she totally put Jamien in the Pet Zone
