To Joel someone means to kill off the most important character in a series, around an hour into the story with no actual buildup to their death.
"I had to stop playing Last of Us 2 after they Joel'd Joel."
"I had real high expectations for Saints Row 3, but then they Joel'd Johnny Gat."
When a very loved and important character is killed off an hour into a show, game, or some form of story without any buildup to that moment.
1. I was playing Last of Us 2 and they killed Joel off in the first hour! They Joel'd him!!
2. Saints Row 3 was fun, but I can't believe they Joel'd Johnny Gat.
