Ethan Toohey

No words can capture the pure beauty of Ethan Toohey. Diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2006, Ethan was a courageous warrior until the monster took him over in the final battle of his life. Although cancer might've claimed his body, it has in no way shape or form claimed his compassionate, brave spirit. He has pulled together people from all across the US to make a stand against childhood cancer and inspired people to strive to do their best each and everyday. He has taught us all that each day we wake up is a gift and to live with no regrets. His 5 year battle was never lonely, as he had the whole town of New Hope behind him every step of the way, even though he never showed any reason for us to worry. Throughout it all, Ethan fought through his battle with his head held high and not once did anyone ever hear him mutter a complaint as to why, out of all people, did this happen to him. Ethan touched the hearts of everyone he met and he could light up a whole school with his presence. This inspiring 15 year old boy taught us all that no matter how hard of a day you might think you're having, you should take time to step back and think about how lucky you have it. Ethan, you are sorely missed in the hearts of many. May your soul carry on and bless the other spirits in heaven that you meet. Every time we see rays of sunshine down here in New Hope, we'll know it's you shining your warming light through the halls again. Rest In Peace. Gone but never forgotten.
I don't want to run this mile today.

Ethan Toohey did a lot of things he didn't want to do for five years. I'm pretty sure you can take 10 minutes out of your day to run one mile.

flophouse

Any house/apartment/frat house/trailer/etc. which is used for individuals to crash (sleep, chill, hang out, lurk, etc.) for a period of time. In order to "crash", one must not actually live there (e.g. have their name on the lease, own said flophouse, etc.). Flophouses are typically used by college students, drug addicts, transients, vagrants, or other unsavory characters.

A flophouse may also be the home owned by the parents of a college student, who after being away at college, wishes to live as if he/she is still at college (e.g. staying out all night, returning just to crash at mom and dad's house, then leaving again), rather than conforming to the pre-college rules.
Example #1
Dude: (Talking to someone passed out face first on the floor of his college apartment) Hey man, who the hell are you? What do you think this is, a flophouse??

Bro: Sorry dude, I must have passed out for a minute.

Example #2
Mom: Where have you BEEN for the last three days? You come home just to sleep?? What do you think this is, a flophouse??!!

Son: What's your problem? I'm an adult now!

Hate Sink

A person you hate intensely not because they deserve such hatred but because they serve as a focus for your general hatred. A healthy way to dispense with excess animosity.
Jake's not really that big an asshole. He just serves as my hate sink.

funiosity

The art of being peculiar, but in an amusing fashion.
"Wow, look at that dog running on three legs"
- "Yeah, that sure is a funiosity"

A toe rag was originally a foot wrapping used, since mediaeval times up until the mid-nineteenth century, to protect the foot from chafing by boots or shoes. As these were, quite literally, rags they weren’t usually washed, and so with use they became very smelly until they were thrown away. Because of the similarity in smell, toe rag also became the name applied to dried, salted cod or other things with a strong, unpleasant, fishy smell. It didn’t take that long before the name was applied to someone who was an obnoxious, unpleasant OIC.
1 “Socks! Those aren’t socks you smelly git, they’re toe rags!”
2 “What have you been cooking? Smells like toe rag!”
3 “I can smell ‘er fanny from ‘ere, proper toe rag.”
4 That Heale Malcolm is a right toe rag.

Eternity leave

When some resigns or retires from a job, they are on "eternity leave". This can also refer to someone who has passed away, especially someone who worked somewhere for a long time, retired/resigned, then passed away later.
Oh I'm sorry, you didn't know that Kelly is on eternity leave? She resigned and moved to Hawaii!

With regrets I would like to inform you that my boss is officially on eternity leave. I will never see or hear them again. Ever.

The hypothetical man (often a sinister character who decided not to go to boot camp) that is doing your girlfriend/wife while you are on deployment overseas.
Ain't no use in goin home,
Jody's got your girl and gone.
Ain't no use in goin back,
Jody's got your Cadillac,
Ain't no use in feeling blue,
Jody's took your checkbook too.
