Ruining one's life, as by precluding possibilities, reducing opportunities, or narrowing one's options. If "the world is your oyster," then killing one's oyster roughly corresponds to "killing one's world." Something like a long-term, all-encompassing buzzkill, or seriously, permanently cramping my style.

This new job is totally killing my oyster.
