A base unit of stress, i.e., a way to quantify how much stress you are feeling. This can be modified by borrowing prefixes from the metric system to accommodate a wide range of scenarios. For example, a milligethard might occur when your waiter wishes you a nice dinner and you reply with “you too!” A megagethard occurs when you are trapped in your in-laws’ bathroom with no toilet paper or soap and everyone is waiting on you to come get into the car so that you can go visit your spouse’s racist uncle.
The word is based on the comedian Chris Gethard, who is known for his podcast Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People and the tv series The Chris Gethard Show. He also has a standup special called Career Suicide. He’s a great dude but is always super stressed out about stuff. He’s very open about his lifelong struggles with mental health and encourages his fans to get help if they need it. At the beginning of many episodes of Beautiful Anonymous, he admits to various stress levels, making his name an appropriate barometer of stress.
