grits 

A pale, tasteless, sludgy mass enjoyed throughout the American South. Since it carries no natural flavor, it is often mixed with copious amounts of butter and salt, making what can only be described as butter pooridge (shudder).

I was at a Waffle House during my visit, and the cook sneazed in my grits.
