WAPOW was the un-imagitive name given to one of the early BBS systems in the early 90's in the South East of England.
Before the internet was wide-spread Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) became the favoured tool of the geek for exchanging messages. WAPOW reached in excess of 30 nodes at the height of it's popularity. The computer press wrote about WAPOW with gusto, but never asked that the initials stood for. I believe the term was dreamt up in the Two Poplars pub in Wokingham one drunken evening....
