Series Syndrome

A common affliction of series' of books where the first installment is exceedingly enjoyable, but every following book is decidedly sub par, if not in comparison than just in general. The Reverse Series Syndrome is when each book in a series is better than the previous.
"Have you read The Midnighters Series by Scott Westerfeld? Was it any good?"

"I wouldn't bother if I were you. They had a bad case of series syndrome."
