It is a short version of "Nigger". It was used only by African-Americans, but now also latino and white people have gained respect to use that word.

black: Wussup ma nigga!?
white: Just chillin' at my crib nigga!
black: Let's go chick chasin' nigga!
white: OKAY nigga!!!
