Nicola and Georgia's definitions

flannen

A Flanan is a kind of cake one makes during an awkward silence. It consists of several moist layers designed to occupy a person when the moment is too awkward to make eye contact. The idea is that you can focus on the cake instead of attempting another awkward conversation which will inevitably lead to both parties wanting to kill themselves. You should always carry a bag of ingredients just incase an awkward moment arises and making a flannen is necessary for survival.

Georgia: so your mum walked in on your fingering a herd of frogs?

Nicola: yeah..
Georgia: Bet that was awkward
Nicola: it was at first but then I made a flannen and it broke the tension. By the time I'd made the 3rd layer we were back on speaking terms.

Georgia: oh right
