having a baby at age 40 or older. Babies born to women who are 40 or older have a much higher risk of being born with developmental or cognitive disabilities, like Down's syndrome, mental retardation, and autism. Thus, anyone who has a baby over 40 is gambling with their baby's health -- hence, "roulette."
