Palayaw

A humorous Filipino folk etymology claiming that “palayaw” comes from “pangalan na ayaw,” referring to a nickname people use because they are too lazy, too affectionate, or too chaotic to say someone’s full real name.

“Ang pangalan niya ay Maria Cristina pero dahil sa palayaw culture, naging ‘TinTin’ na lang. Pangalan na ayaw, apparently.”
