A figure of apeach meaning to outwit someone, leaving the oposition feeling like they have obtained victory. It's not until the war of wits is long over and it is too late for retaliation that the misconstrued foe realizes their own defeat and their lap in victory lane becomes a walk of shame.
He nobely conceded loss and walked away as he tried to hide his devilish grin. Inside he knew he pulled a "dirty-Jeremy" and the victory actually belonged to him.
