Mingball

A word of gaelic origin with no exact literal translation. Used by umpires in GAA intermidiate and inter-county matches to signal points, which occur when the football or sliothar goes over the crossbar.
When a point is scored,ie,when the sliothar/football is thrown over the crossbar, the umpires on either side of the goalposts lift a white flag,in his case,a mingball,to signal to the audience that a point has been scored. For more info see the GAA official website or refer to the GAA official rule and guide book.
